Central Government is seeking to stimulate self build in the UK with incentives to self build and a new right to build policy requires all local authorities to make land available and to provide and keep a register of available land for self builders.
Self/custom build home buyers are able to specify their new home to their exact requirements rather than have a volume housebuilders taste imposed upon them, in much the same way our European self build neighbours have enjoyed for many years.
The usual formulaic method of pricing by housebuilders goes out of the window and a self/custom build homeowner can save at least 20% of the cost of their new home. Once completed they will own an appreciating asset with many more bells and whistles than a typical housebuilder are willing to provide for the price.
A self builder that commits to stay in their new house for at least 3 years will not have to pay the Community Infrastructure Levy.
